Mary Moss

Mary Moss was an elementary, middle, and high school teacher for seven years, working in NYC, Atlanta, Boston, and Fayetteville, NC. Mary then served as a principal for seven years of two technology-rich, student-centered start-up schools in the New York City Department of Education, including Mott Hall II (mott.echalk.com), a progressive one-to-one laptop middle school. As Co-Founder of the NYC iSchool (www.nycischool.org), NYC DOE’s pilot high school for 21st century learning and innovation, Mary specialized in the development of challenge-based curricula designed to give students the opportunity to apply 21st century skills in the context of solving real-world challenges, the development of students’ online learning skills, and designing systems to enable personalization and mastery-based individualization of the learning process.

Mary is a frequent presenter at national ed-tech conferences and was a member of the Governor’s Appointed Talent and Workforce Development Committee. Mary graduated with a B.S. from Bates College with a self-designed major in Children’s Studies, then earned her Masters at Harvard Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. Mary received her doctorate from Columbia University Teachers College, with a focus on adolescent education and public school leadership. Currently, Mary is the Executive Director and co-Founder of Charlotte Lab School, a growing charter school in Charlotte, North Carolina.
